They remember kids in school having them on their teeth for several years. That is one options, and nowadays, they do not have be so blatantly visible. There are clear and porcelain ones that blend into the teeth. There are braces that fit on the inside instead of the outside. Or you can do a total 180 and get brightly colored braces. There are other options. For mildly crooked teeth just a retainer may be all that is needed. This is a molded plastic that fits in the upper or lower palate behind the teeth and has a wire that arcs over the front. Some people only wear them at night.
Invisible aligners are an option. These are individualized, custom fitted clear pieces that slip over the teeth and gently maneuver them into a better position in the jaw. Every two weeks or so they are switched out for a new pair. The process usually takes about a year.
If the issue is more of a gapping or a slight leaning, a porcelain veneer may be an option for a couple of teeth. These can be made to match the color of your teeth, or if you opt for a mouthful, can permanently be placed over your natural teeth for a white smile that will last for decades. At around a thousand a tooth, the price can get pretty out of reach for a lot of people, though.
Finally you can have your teeth contoured an reshaped. The least expensive of all, the teeth can be sculpted with a white resin made to match your tooth color. The process is fairly painless and takes one dentist visit. Some of the tooth is shaved down, the other part is built up. The resin adheres with a brief session under a heat lamp aimed directly at the tooth. The results can last many years.
Your dentist can discuss all these options with you and together you can decide which route is the best for your situation. The thing is, there are selections for every price range. No matter if you are male or female, old or young, if your adult teeth are not as straight and even as you would like, it can be fixed.
